2018 will see RCBPC, in conjunction with the Hurlingham Polo Association (HPA), host 'The International Day’. The prestigious annual polo spectacular, showcasing an England Test Match against international opposition either playing for the Coronation Cup or The Westchester Cup.
The International Day has always been one of the highest profile sporting events in the British summer calendar and as always this world-class day will be one of the stand-out social events of the year.
The Coronation Cup was first played for in 1911 to honour the coronation of King George V, grandfather to our current Queen. The Westchester Cup was created in 1876 and is always played for by teams from the USA and England.
Following on from last year, a Ladies International, featuring England Ladies will also be on the schedule, highlighting the importance of women's polo across the globe.
Jamie Morrison, Chairman of the Royal Berkshire welcomed the announcement saying, “We are honoured that what has historically been one of the most prestigious and historic events of the polo year, is coming to our club.
“Innovation has been at our core since our inception and as those who follow polo will know, we have never been afraid to try new things. So we are really looking forward to working more closely with the HPA seeing what we can bring to the Coronation Cup for all those involved.”
The HPA have had an excellent relationship over many years with Guards Polo Club and they have been a great partner in staging truly memorable Coronation Cup events, and we are grateful for the many years they have hosted the Coronation cup."
